1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (New Living Translation)

 ⁹ Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, ¹⁰ or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. ¹¹ Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

One of the arguments we hear about homosexuality (note it is just one in the list of sins Paul addresses … sin is sin) is that a person is born that way. This scripture says it is an indulged practice and is something which like other sin, one can be cleansed from. Homosexuality, along with any sin, is not beyond the power of God, through the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, to make one right.

God is omnipotent … all powerful, if one will lay their sin at the foot of the Cross.

The Sunday School Ministry has launched a new Student Growth Program designed for Children and Youth with emphasis on memorization of God’s Word to enrich their spiritual growth and development.

Another emphasis is to grow attendance in all age groups.  Adults are not required to compete in the memorization.

The children and youth will start with memorization of the 10 Commandments and the Lord’s Prayer for the October assignment for recitation on the 4^th Sunday of October. Then on the 4^th Sunday of November they will recite the Sunday School memory verses for October and November. Prizes will be given for full recitation of the Commandments and Lord’s Prayer. Prizes will be awarded for the recitation of 6 out of 8 memory verses.

Additionally, refreshments for all registered Sunday School attendees will be provided immediately after Sunday School is dismissed in the Fellowship Hall.

The guest speaker at the brunch was Sister Joy Johnson, 1st lady of St. Mary’s MB Church, Flowood and wife of Pastor A.J. Johnson.

The Nazareth MB Church Sunday School Ministry Growth Program has been designed by Rev. & Sister Willie Varnado as an outreach ministry to Nazareth members and the Mendenhall community. In today’s troubled world, we can see that our children need to return to Bible basics in order to come into the saving knowledge of our Lord. Jesus Christ.

The emphasis will be for children and youth to memorize scripture and have consistent Sunday School attendance. Program participation will prepare Nazareth children and youth for competition in the Spring Hill Sunday School Institute. Behavior will also be key as they learn respect for God’s House, family and others. The children and youth will earn monthly prizes for reciting memory verses. Adults are also encouraged to participate in the memorizing of verses.
